Friends of Grant Park was formed in 2000 by a group of concerned neighbors who wanted to improve the conditions at Grant Park (located at 22nd & C Streets) in Midtown Sacramento and make it a safer place for families to gather. We were successful in getting a playground built at the park, and, since then, have concentrated on providing fun and free community building events at the park. Our successes have included neighborhood socials and barbecues, Young at Art, a series of free art workshops for children, the Grant Park Reading Room, and the Midtown Children's Fair. As recipients of several grants, including awards by the Community Building Initiative of First 5 Sacramento, we have been able to expand our efforts as we seek to help make Midtown a supportive community for families. We also seek to involve other Midtown groups, businesses, and associations to bring a focus to the needs of families. All events hosted by Friends of Grant Park are always free and we welcome all families and neighbors. We hope that you will join us soon at one of
our events and will help us realize our vision of a connected and unified community which results in a safer and more nurturing home for our children.
Mission Statement
Friends of Grant Park is a community group, which seeks to enhance the lives of families in Midtown Sacramento through a variety of community building activities designed to connect families to each other and to community resources. These fun and free events will be held at Grant Park and in its adjacent neighborhood. In accomplishing this, we will help make Grant Park a safe and wonderful place for families to gather and will help make Midtown Sacramento a welcoming, friendly, and nurturing place for families to live.
